Bang! Bang! Back!

This is a remake of the classic "Bang! Bang!" artillery game.

My brothers and me used to play this game a lot on our father's Windows 3.11 PC when we were kids. There weren't much games you could play in multiplayer, to be honest. But just seeing some screenshots of the old game brought back those childhood memories.

I tried to recreate the graphics and old windows environment as best as I could.

There are some slight changes I allowed myself to add:

  • Mooving clouds depending on the wind speed. I think the original had static backgrounds only, which changed from level to level
  • More randomness in the landscape. If I remember correctly, the original had a fixed set of terrains which switched randomly. In the remake, I implemented a random variation of the terrain outline.

I added a configuration menu. I couldn't find out what it featured in the original game. But you can now adjust the Music and SFX volume and enable or disable wind.

I am currently thinking about an AI opponent and network multiplayer. I am not sure what will be easier to implement. If I find the time, I will give those features a deeper thought.

Install instructions

Unzip the downloaded distribution package to a folder of your choice.  The ZIP file should contain the main executable file (.exe on Windows or .x86_64 on Linux) and a smaller .pck file containing the game data.

Just start the executable. Depending on your system, it might be needed to add an exception in your anti-malware software or to grant execution access for that file.
