Bang! Bang! Back!
Bang! Bang! Back!
This is a remake of the classic "Bang! Bang!" artillery game.
My brothers and me used to play this game a lot on our father's Windows 3.11 PC when we were kids. There weren't much games you could play in multiplayer, to be honest. But just seeing some screenshots of the old game brought back those childhood memories.
I tried to recreate the graphics and old windows environment as best as I could.
There are some slight changes I allowed myself to add:
- Mooving clouds depending on the wind speed. I think the original had static backgrounds only, which changed from level to level
- More randomness in the landscape. If I remember correctly, the original had a fixed set of terrains which switched randomly. In the remake, I implemented a random variation of the terrain outline.
I added a configuration menu. I couldn't find out what it featured in the original game. But you can now adjust the Music and SFX volume and enable or disable wind.
I am currently thinking about an AI opponent and network multiplayer. I am not sure what will be easier to implement. If I find the time, I will give those features a deeper thought.

Install instructions
Unzip the downloaded distribution package to a folder of your choice. The ZIP file should contain the main executable file (.exe on Windows or .x86_64 on Linux) and a smaller .pck file containing the game data.
Just start the executable. Depending on your system, it might be needed to add an exception in your anti-malware software or to grant execution access for that file.

Excellent job! I was a young boy when I played this on Windows 3.1, and you've just brought back so many memories!
I actually came across your remake because I recently started developing my own Bang! Bang!-inspired video game. I'm developing it in C++ with SFML, and I'm not expecting to match your level of quality or fidelity to the original. It's just a little project for fun.
I just wanted to congratulate you on your fantastic work!
Thanks for your comment.
I am happy to hear that you had fun playing my game and that it helped bringing back some childhood memories.
Good luck with the development of your own artillery game. I would be interested to hear how you get along.
Bang! Bang! Back! was also just a little hobby project, but I had a lot of fun in trying to match the style and UI of the original.
Thank you very much for your interest. For now, the code isn't publicly available, as I'm still working on it and would like to polish it further before sharing.
You really did an excellent job capturing the style and feel of the original game, while also adding your own touches, like the music and the animated clouds and birds!
